This month, we're focusing on both fire safety and home security, two things go hand in hand when it comes to protecting the people and places you care about most.   ### Everyday Habits, Real Protection Many of us charge our phones, tools, and e-bikes every single day without giving it a second thought. But small habits around charging can make a big difference in preventing lithium-ion battery fires. A few simple reminders: - Stick with the charger that came with your device, or one approved by the manufacturer. Off-brand chargers may not meet the same safety standards and can damage a battery over time. - Charge on a hard, flat surface like a table or floor rather than a bed or couch, where heat can get trapped. - If a device feels unusually hot, starts to swell, or smells strange, stop using it right away. - Once something is fully charged, unplug it. Leaving a device connected longer than necessary adds unnecessary stress on the battery. - For larger items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools, charge them outside when you can, and never block an exit while charging. None of these habits take much extra effort, but together they can meaningfully lower the risk of a fire starting in your home in the first place.
