For nearly 13 years, HPM Building Supply has been an integral part of the building community on Kauaʻi. From new home builds to renovations of cherished plantation cottages, HPM has been providing lumber, roofing and building materials for projects of all types from Kalāheo to Kīlauea. At HPM’s two locations in Kapa‘a and Lāwaʻi, residents will find knowledgeable and homegrown team members ready to help. Meet a few of them below!
Rose Keaweamahi-Hoovler, Senior Kitchen & Bath Designer
“Customers have been so impressed with how solid our team is,” Rose said. “They see how hard we work to make things happen for them. We try to take the stress off of them completely,” she added.
Since she was little, Rose has had a passion for design. She trained to be a designer and worked her way through many jobs that helped refine that passion. Today, as a Senior Kitchen Bath Designer at HPM’s Lāwa‘i Design Center, she helps customers to bring their kitchen and bath ideas to life. With every project, Rose thinks about the families who will build memories within the walls and spaces she helps plan.
At HPM, Rose feels empowered and supported every day. Just like every HPM employee, Rose is an owner-employee because of the company’s Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP). She believes that HPM’s excellent customer service is because HPM takes care of its employees so well.
Bill Brooks, Regional Manager – Kauaʻi
“From helping our team members to grow as leaders to showing our customers the different facets of how we can serve them, I really enjoy it all,” said Bill. “We hold ourselves to a fundamental truth — that if we develop our team, they are empowered to offer unmatched customer service.” Over the last 10 years that Bill has been at HPM, he has seen how HPM’s focus on operations and execution sets the company apart from other businesses.
As a current resident of Kapaʻa, Bill has built a life for his family on the Garden Isle. He loves the peaceful environment of Kauaʻi and how community-oriented it is, and he sees HPM’s commitment to the community as an essential part of being a caring neighbor and contributing to the greater good.
For instance, HPM is deeply connected to Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity and works closely with them to build affordable housing through value engineering and planning. HPM also partners with Kauaʻi Community College and high schools by donating tools and safety equipment to their carpentry programs.
Rusty Bernat, Outside Sales Representative
“Our customers love the one-on-one personal interaction that we have and that we are fully involved from start to finish,” said Rusty. He actively cultivates client relationships, contrasting with the reactive approach that has been a signature aspect of how HPM does business.
Rusty has been living on Kauaʻi for 15 years and loves how tight-knit and community oriented everyone is on the island. It’s that sense of community that makes him feel grateful for living there. He’s grateful to also feel that love for community at HPM. “Our community commitment aligns with our core values,” Rusty said. “We don’t just sell you things. We want to improve the lives of people in the community. HPM wants to see the community grow and thrive,” he added.
