With so many options out there, it can be tough to know where to start and sometimes expert advice can make all the difference. That's why we sat down with Paul Mendoza, HPM's Flooring Design Manager, to discuss EVOLUX® Flooring, featured at any HPM Design Center location. With over 20 years of experience in the flooring industry, including roles as an installer, salesman, and manager, Paul brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to help homeowners find the ideal flooring solution for their unique needs and preferences. His expertise spans from understanding the technical aspects of flooring materials to guiding customers through the selection process and ensuring a successful installation.   ### What is EVOLUX® Flooring? EVOLUX®  is a luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring line by Roca, built to withstand real life. Rigid core click-lock construction makes installation faster and more accessible, while a waterproof profile, durable wear layer and IXPE attached pad make it a strong fit for Hawaiʻi's climate. LVP flooring resists scratches, dents and stains from everyday wear. It's also water resistant, making it a smart choice for kitchens, bathrooms and other spaces prone to moisture. EVOLUX® Flooring is installed with click-lock construction, meaning no glue or nails and simpler repairs down the road.   ### What is a Wear Layer? One of the main benefits of LVP flooring is its durability. But what does 20 mil actually mean? In simple terms, it refers to the thickness of the wear layer - the protective coating on top of the vinyl. A 20 mil wear layer is thicker than other options, like 12 mil, which means it's better at resisting scratches, dents, and stains. The 20 mil wear layer is available in the [5mm Iris Collection](https://evoluxflooring.com/collections/iris-2025-10-10) and HPM Exclusive 5mm Iris Collection. EVOLUX® Flooring also offers a 22 mil wear layer, providing even more protection for your flooring. This is available in the [8mm Iris Collection](https://evoluxlaravel.dfsoft.mx/collections/iris-8mm-1969-12-31), [Whisper Woods Lite Collection](https://evoluxflooring.com/collections/whisper-woods-lite-1969-12-31), and the [Après Collection](https://evoluxflooring.com/collections/apres-1969-12-31).   ![Apres Caramel](https://news-savings.hpmhawaii.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Apres%20Caramel.png?width=1184&height=620&name=Apres%20Caramel.png) Après | Caramel   ### Choosing the Right Style for Your Space When picking your vinyl flooring, think about the size and shape of your room. For bigger spaces, consider wider and longer planks to create a sense of grandeur. For smaller rooms and bathrooms, thinner planks can help keep things looking balanced. As a general rule, try to run the planks along the longest wall and in the same direction as the natural light coming in from the windows.   ### Installation and Maintenance Guidance HPM Design Centers offer tips on how to properly install your flooring and can advise the contractor you choose based on your preference and layout of space. Proper installation is key to getting a beautiful, long-lasting result. Start by making sure your sub-floor is level and clean. Whether you're a DIY enthusiast or hiring a professional, it's crucial to take the necessary precautions and follow the manufacturer's guidelines when cutting door jambs to ensure the flooring fits neatly underneath. EVOLUX® Flooring, available at HPM, features a high-quality click-lock mechanism that securely holds the planks together and minimizes gaps, offering a superior alternative to traditional flooring joint systems. ![Apres Mocha](https://news-savings.hpmhawaii.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Apres%20Mocha.png?width=1130&height=591&name=Apres%20Mocha.png) Après | Mocha ### Effortless Maintenance One of the best things about vinyl flooring is how easy it is to keep clean. Just use a damp mop or a Swiffer-type product to wipe away dirt and grime - no fancy cleaning products or steam cleaning needed. With just a little bit of regular maintenance, your floors will stay looking great for years to come.    ### Investing in Your Home's Value Installing EVOLUX®  Flooring in your home is not only a smart choice for your daily life but can also increase your home's value. By investing in this durable and stylish flooring solution, you'll enjoy its benefits for years to come while making your home more attractive to potential buyers in the future. Just like investing in a pair of high-quality, custom shoes that may cost more upfront but last longer and save your feet from discomfort, choosing EVOLUX® Flooring is an investment in your home's durability, style, and long-term value.   ### ![HPM Hilo Flooring Paul](https://news-savings.hpmhawaii.com/hs-fs/hubfs/HPM%20Hilo%20Flooring%20Paul.jpg?width=198&height=248&name=HPM%20Hilo%20Flooring%20Paul.jpg)Meet Paul Mendoza With over 20 years of experience in flooring sales and installation, Flooring Design Manager Paul is dedicated to helping you find the [perfect flooring solution](https://www.hpmhawaii.com/flooring) tailored to your specific requirements and preferences.
